The Biology of Addiction

Are you addicted to something? It could be tobacco, coffee, alcohol, drugs or even sex... If the answer is yes, the latest research suggests that it probably has nothing at all to do with your will-power, but more to do with your biology.

Here Dr Gabor Maté draws fascinating conclusions regarding the long-term impacts of childhood abuse on our biology, particularly emotional abuse. He argues that the addictive personality is the result of a raw deal in our formative years so that vilifying sufferers via a "war on drugs" is therefore both ineffective and immoral.
