The Sacred Demise of Industrial Civilization

Carolyn Baker is the author of Sacred Demise: walking the spiritual path of industrial civilization's collapse. She sees a gradual demise of western civilization with daunting and perhaps horrific consequences. All of our governmental support services are in demise. For example, look at how our education system has deteriorated. Collapse is inevitable.

Carolyn suggests the best way to prepare for the disruptive changes she foresees is to develop community and personal interdependance - none of us can survive societal collapse alone. She goes on to describe the kind of world that may emerge, and how it might function.

Collapse of Societies - Then and Now

Peak Moment 112: According to Professor Guy Prouty, a university anthropology professor, every civilization rises, evolves, and then collapses to a simpler structure -- and this will include our own. Comparing America with the Western Roman Empire, Prouty notes the over-reach of our military, the unsustainability of capitalism, peak oil, and climate change. And, this time, we may see a global collapse.

Transitioning to a simpler society will require us to change behavior and consciousness: decrease energy, get out of debt, decentralize, de-consume, grow our own food, build community, see ourselves as connected to the planet. Collapse is not the end, he says. It's part of a natural cycle.
